Treating Parkinson disease. Eldepryl is taken with levodopa/carbidopa.Eldepryl is a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. It works by prolonging the anti-Parkinson activity of levodopa, which may help to slow the progression of Parkinson disease. Selegiline has no anti-Parkinson effects of its own and must always be given in combination with levodopa/carbidopa.Do NOT use Eldepryl if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Eldepryl
- you have schizophrenia
- you are taking an anorexiant (eg, phentermine), apraclonidine, brimonidine, bupropion, buspirone, carbamazepine, cyclobenzaprine, dextromethorphan, entacapone, an herbal product (eg, ma huang), indoramin, meperidine, nefazodone, a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (eg, atomoxetine), papaverine, a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (eg, venlafaxine), sibutramine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant (eg, fluoxetine, citalopram), a sympathomimetic (eg, ephedrine, methylphenidate), a tetracyclic antidepressant (eg, trazodone), tolcapone, tramadol, a tricyclic antidepressant (eg, amitriptyline, doxepin), or a "triptan" (eg, sumatriptan, zolmitriptan)

How to use Eldepryl:
Use Eldepryl as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Eldepryl with food.
- Most people who take Eldepryl can eat a normal diet. However, if your dosage is more than 10 mg/day, serious increases in blood pressure may occur when you eat or drink some foods and drinks. Foods or drinks that may cause a reaction include aged cheeses, sour cream, red wines, beer, bologna, pepperoni, salami, summer sausage, pickled herring, liver, meat prepared with tenderizers, canned figs, raisins, bananas, avocados, soy sauce, fava beans, or yeast extracts. Obtain a complete list of foods and drinks from your doctor or pharmacist.
- Continue to use Eldepryl even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
- If you miss a dose of Eldepryl , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Possible side effects of Eldepryl:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
- Dizziness; dry mouth; hallucinations; headache; lightheadedness; stomach pain; vivid dreams.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
- Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); anxiety; behavior or mood changes; chest pain; confusion; fainting; heart palpitations or changes in heart rate; nausea; severe headache; unusual body movements or difficulty moving; vomiting.

Proper storage of Eldepryl:
Store Eldepryl at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Eldepryl out of the reach of children and away from pets.
